In September 2017 on a ruling against Young Living, the US Department of Justice announced a fine of $760,000 and guilty plea on federal misdemeanor charges for the illegal trafficking of rosewood oil and spikenard oil in violation of the Lacey Act of 1900 and the Endangered Species Act of 1973. The illegal activities were discovered by an outside investigator hired by Young Living, and the company subsequently voluntarily disclosed the concerns to the government.[26][27][28] In addition to the fines levied, the company was placed on probation for a period of five years.[27][26]

It’s much harder to police the millions of independent distributors. In September, 2014, the F.D.A. sent a sternly worded letter to doTerra, scolding the company for distributors’ claims about oils and conditions including cancer, brain injury, autism, Alzheimer’s disease, and A.D.H.D. The agency cited a tweet by a doTerra consultant using the handle Mrs. Skinny Medic that listed “oils that could help prevent your contracting the Ebola virus,” and a Pinterest post by Wellness Empress that recommended peppermint oil for asthma, autism, bacterial infections, and brain injury. (Young Living received a similar letter.)

Originally there was always doubt in ancient societies, especially in the sceptical medium of western traditions, as to the efficacity of herbal medicines. The use of herbal cosmetics dates back to around six centuries ago in the European and Western countries. Mixtures and pastes were often concocted to whiten the face. During the 1940s, herbal cosmetics took a turn with the emerging red lipstick color, with every year gaining a more intense red. Herbal cosmetics come in many forms, such as face creams, scrubs, lipstick, natural fragrances, powders, body oils, deodorants and sunscreens. They activate through the epithelium of sebaceous glands to make the skin more supple. Ayurvedic oils are widely used in India, prized for their natural health-giving properties.[17]

These five oils are powerful in helping treat cuts and abrasions; however you have to make sure that when you are using essential oils for their healing properties you are using 100% pure oil extracted from the plants. Some essential oils are just perfume oils that use synthetic chemicals and carrier oils in a blend to mimic essential oils. These do not provide any real healing properties and can actually irritate the skin when applied topically. So make sure that when building your essential oil first aid kit you use real essential oils like those found at Organic Aromas. Our oils are made of 100% natural, organic plant sources and provide the full healing benefit for cuts and abrasions. Check out our wide selection of essential oils and experience for yourself the impressive healing powers of essential oils.

Its vigorous nature means it can sometimes be invasive, so to avoid it taking over, grow it in a bottomless bucket set in the soil. With its refreshing and pleasant spearmint flavour, the herb is often used to flavour salads and sauces, such as mint sauce. Its leaves can also be dried or used fresh to create herbal tea, and are often used in domestic herbal remedies.
Oh my goodness, no! As mentioned, there’s a generous compensation plan if you want to share a little and cover the cost of your oils or share even more and earn a full-time paycheck, but never any obligation to do so! If you’re interested in earning money from sharing about the oils, read about the income opportunity here. But ZERO pressure to do so!

I’ve read MANY pages on many websites when it comes to information on essential oils, and yours is honestly one of the best when it comes to the descriptions, uses and health benefits, and it’s very organized as well. You’ve done an excellent job on this page, as well as the entire website, so thank you for the wealth of information on everything you’ve shared!
Young eventually fired Stirling, citing, among other reasons, the fact that Stirling kept Young out of the company magazine. (A spokesperson said he was let go for “performance reasons.”) “Satan exercised dominion over you to the point where you started thinking that you had knowledge and ability greater than anyone else, including me, the creator of the company,” Young wrote in an e-mail. Young declined to speak to me, but the spokesperson said, “Successful company founders are often cut from a different cloth than the rest of us, which is true of Gary Young and his pioneering cowboy spirit.”

For breastfeeding moms, it can reduce nipple cracks and nipple pain from breastfeeding. Mint fights against depression and fatigue, aids in memory loss, gets rid of pimples, and helps in weight loss. This herb heals and soothes burns, treats rheumatism, boosts brain activity, and induces sweating on people with fever. It can also soothe muscle ache, relieves heartburn (if taken in small doses), prevents cancer, and improves eye health.

Many essential oils affect the skin and mucous membranes in ways that are valuable or harmful. Many essential oils, particularly tea tree oil, may cause contact dermatitis.[19][20][21][22] They are used in antiseptics and liniments in particular. Typically, they produce rubefacient irritation at first and then counterirritant numbness. Turpentine oil and camphor are two typical examples of oils that cause such effects. Menthol and some others produce a feeling of cold followed by a sense of burning. This is caused by its effect on heat-sensing nerve endings. Some essential oils, such as clove oil or eugenol, were popular for many hundred years in dentistry as antiseptics and local anesthetics.

With a fresh zesty scent of citrus and fruity top notes, Grapefruit Essential Oil is popular when scenting facial cleansers and toners. Grapefruit Essential Oil is used in aromatherapy to bring about a cheerful feeling. There is no difference between the quality of the White and Pink varieties, but the Grapefruit Pink Essential Oil is generally considered the sweeter of the two oils. Grapefruit oil is also sometimes added to creams and lotions as a natural toner.
The Greek historian Herodotus was familiar with frankincense and knew it was harvested from trees in southern Arabia. He reported that the gum was dangerous to harvest because of the venomous snakes living in the trees. The method Arabs used to get around this problem was to burn the gum of the styrax tree letting off smoke that would drive the snakes away.
My fiance has a wound in his foot, the heel area that has progressively gotten worse. Not only is there the deep hole into his foot that won’t heal even with antibiotics but now Moving up his leg to about midshin his leg has edema and his skin is red and dry and painful like a sunburn. The hole in his heel side feels differently than the radiating pain above it up to midshin level. To shorten it up he won’t let me tounch it at all. So I can’t try the oils if I must run them on. Would dropping some on it be a way to detour around that? And if so can too much be used? Thanks, hopefully awaiting your response. , Carrie
Refreshing and radiant, we carry several varieties of Lemon Essential Oil. Two of our most popular sellers are the regular Lemon and the Lemon 5 Fold, for their long-lasting, pleasant fragrance. The aroma is intensely citrusy and fresh, with wonderful zesty top notes. The Lemon 5 Fold is highly concentrated which makes it especially desirable for cosmetics, as well as soap and candle manufacturing.

Cohen went into her treatment room and came back with a small vial labelled “Clarity.” She put a few drops in my left palm. “This is good for getting your mind clear,” she said. “Rub it clockwise three times. That activates the electrical properties in the oil, and aligns your DNA.” Following Cohen’s instructions, I cupped my hands around my nose and inhaled deeply. The smell was heavier than that of perfume, so minty that it was almost medicinal. Cohen looked at me expectantly. “I feel perkier,” I ventured.

Eucalyptus Globulus essential oil is popular for its known ability to help with respiratory issues. This oil is also perfect to use after strenuous exercise or overexertion, it can help with relieving muscle or joint pain. Eucalyptus Globulus can also help with aging by comforting the joints and muscles. Finally, use this oil everyday to help focus the mind, promote body relaxation, and normal circulation.
Gary Young, the founder of Young Living, made his first appearance at the convention by riding into the arena on a sled pulled by a team of huskies. (Last year, he flew in on a zip line.) An annual highlight is the announcement of a new oil blend. This year’s concoction, Fulfill Your Destiny, was available to distributors for thirty-four dollars for five millilitres and included black pepper, blue spruce, and frankincense, “which opens up your pineal gland,” Young said from the stage.
Attorney John W. Huber for the District of Utah said that while the violations were wilfully and knowingly committed by certain Young Living employees, the company was to be commended on its voluntary compliance and on initiating its own internal investigation. "This sentence reflects both the seriousness of the offenses and the acceptance of responsibility and cooperation by the company," he said.

Certain herbs contain psychoactive properties that have been used for both religious and recreational purposes by humans since the early Holocene era, notably the leaves and extracts of the cannabis and coca plants. The leaves of the coca plant have been chewed by people in northern Peruvian societies for over 8,000 years,[14] while the use of cannabis as a psychoactive substance dates back to the first century CE in China and northern Africa.[15]

Several edible vegetable and animal oils, and also fats, are used for various purposes in cooking and food preparation. In particular, many foods are fried in oil much hotter than boiling water. Oils are also used for flavoring and for modifying the texture of foods (e.g. Stir Fry). Cooking oils are derived either from animal fat, as butter, lard and other types, or plant oils from the olive, maize, sunflower and many other species.
Pleasantly suitable for an abundance of oral and topical uses, peppermint may be the most versatile essential oil in the world. Literally, there are few issues that it can't help. Possibly the most fascinating aspect of peppermint is that recent research suggests that it is literally antibiotic resistant. According to an article published in the journal Phytomedicine in 2013, “Reduced usage of antibiotics could be employed as a treatment strategy to decrease the adverse effects and possibly to reverse the beta-lactam antibiotic resistance,” due to the powerful effects of peppermint oil. 3. Kudzu: Curb problem drinking A group of moderately heavy drinkers in their 20s voluntarily cut their beer consumption in half after taking capsules containing the Chinese herb (also called Pueraria lobata) for a week, according to a study published in Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research. Researchers say the kudzu more quickly allows alcohol to get to the part of the brain that tells you that you've had enough.
^ Papple, Dawn. (September 25, 2014). "FDA Warning Letters: Young Living, dōTERRA Consultants Must Cease Marketing Claims That Essential Oils Fight Disease", Inquisitor. Retrieved January 31, 2019. "However, Young Living’s CEO was reprimanded for more than just consultants’ claims. Young Living’s own website made claims that promoted products in such a way that the federal government would classify the products as drugs, according to the FDA."
In June, I attended Young Living’s “Fulfill Your Destiny” convention for distributors, held at Salt Lake City’s Salt Palace event center. The company, which was founded in 1994, has grown tenfold in the past decade, and the hallways were packed with good-natured, heavily fragrant people heading to workshops with names such as “Yoga: A Business Tool” and “Essential Care for Animals.” They wore T-shirts that said “Essential Oils. Heck yeah” and “There’s an oil for that” and “I’m silently assessing your oil needs.” Never have I sneezed so much; never have I been blessed so enthusiastically when I sneezed.
Tea Tree essential oil is a strong and effective antioxidant, able to improve the overall appearance of the skin, as well as reduce blemishes, lines, and scars. By helping to regrow new and healthy skin cells, use of Tea Tree essential oil is one of the most effective remedies for tightening and smoothing the skin, as well as drastically reducing scar tissue.
Young Living sells more than a hundred and fifty oils, and a section of the convention center featured samples of them. Some were familiar—oregano, eucalyptus—while others were proprietary blends meant to evoke different physical or spiritual states. Christmas Spirit “taps into the happiness, joy, and comfort associated with the holiday season”; Dragon Time promotes “feelings of stability and calm during cycles of moodiness.” It was early in the day, so I dabbed on a drop of Acceptance, and then some Highest Potential, for good measure.
In the plea agreement, DOJ said that from June 2010 to October 2014, several Young Living employees and contractors harvested, transported, and distilled rosewood (Aniba roseaodora or Brazilian rosewood) in Peru.  They then circumvented Peruvian law, which prohibits the unauthorized harvest and transport of the wood or its by products, by shipping some of the oil through Ecuador, according to the DOJ. The species is also protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).  The Young Living employees had neither export nor CITIES authorization, according to the plea agreement.

Oregano is used for respiratory tract disorders such as coughs, asthma, croup, and bronchitis. It is also used for gastrointestinal (GI) disorders such as heartburn and bloating. Other uses include treating menstrual cramps, rheumatoid arthritis, urinary tract disorders including urinary tract infections (UTIs), headaches, and heart conditions. The oil of oregano is taken by mouth for intestinal parasites, allergies, sinus pain, arthritis, cold and flu, swine flu, earaches, and fatigue. It is applied to the skin for skin conditions including acne, athlete's foot, oily skin, dandruff, canker sores, warts, ringworm, rosacea, and psoriasis; as well as for insect and spider bites, gum disease, toothaches, muscle pain, and varicose veins. Oregano oil is also used topically as an insect repellent. (8)

It is also important to recognize that, in order for these oils to be effective, they must be used on a daily basis for a number of months. Essential oil treatments take time to work, so it is vital to create a daily routine of application. When applied daily, you should begin to see some changes in your skin's appearance in about a month, although all bodies are different.

When you're on a mission to grow out your hair, you have to show some love to your scalp, too. This treads the line between a serum and an oil, and will cover your hair's bases from root-to-tip. As soon as you apply it, your scalp will feel stimulated and soothed. This restorative oil works to keep your hair fibers intact, which in turn will provide you with a noticeable improvement in texture and length.
Don't stress: Relaxation is only a whiff away. While there are plenty of science-backed scents for finding calm (rose, sandalwood, lavender, frankincense, and orange among them), Avery points out that in the end, you do you: "Any aroma that speaks to you and brings about a sense of calm and relaxation can be beneficial." Our favorite trick for alleviating tension in 30 seconds flat? Massage an oil blend with calming scents into your temples, which are pressure points.

Many essential oils have anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-fungal properties that help to boost your immune system and fight infections. The chemical substances found in essential oils, such as terpenes, esters, phenolics, ethers and ketones, have the potential to fight foreign pathogens that can threaten your health. Some of the best essential oils for your immunity include oregano, myrrh, ginger, lemon, eucalyptus, frankincense, peppermint (or Mentha piperita) and cinnamon.
Helichrysum oil has many beneficial properties. Among them are anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, anti-septic, cytophylactic, and cicatrisant. Although all of these are incredibly important, it is the last two which are the most beneficial to the skin. We are familiar, at this point, with the term cicatrisant. This new term, cytophylactic, literally means, "protect the cells of an organism". What this means for you is that Helichrysum essential oil possesses a powerful ability to both protect and regenerate skin cells, making it hard for scars to hold up against the healing prowess of this oil.

4. I assume by illufed you mean “eluded”? What question would you like me to address. There are some questions I can’t answer due to concerns for anonymity or legal concerns. Otherwise I would venture to say that I am one of the most honest bloggers out there–willing to go back on things that I found out I was recommending that were wrong. Perhaps you should stick around my blog for awhile as you will see it happen again almost for sure.
In 2000, Michael Pratt, a professor of management at Boston College, conducted an ethnographic study of Amway distributors. He concluded that the company offered few of the benefits that traditionally inspired loyalty. Its workforce was geographically diffuse; workers had inconsistent income, no benefits, and little job security. What held Amway together was its ability to foster strong feelings of identification, and to get its members to see the company as the embodiment of an idealized life. Young Living’s affection for abstract nouns—purity, abundance, wellness, vitality—helps to define a shared culture that prizes freedom, family, and self-sufficiency, and is suspicious of regulation and Big Pharma. All the ancillary swag for sale at the conference—the T-shirts and bumper stickers and magnets—helped to transmit the message that Young Living’s distributors were not just people who sold oils; they were oil people.
Truth be told, the best essential oils as we know them today are very new on the scene of plant-based therapies. To be fair, ancient civilizations did employ crude distillations techniques, but the essential oils that were extracted centuries ago were a far cry from the potent, filtered, and pure compounds that we see available to us today. The same is true with extracts, salves and poultices that were made from healing plants. They all contained essential oils and were, thus, very effective at preventing and managing disease. However, they definitely lacked the medicinal strength of the best essential oils that we use today.
Some people believe rubbing oil from this plant on their skin helps ease pain from bruising, as well as from swelling and aches. Others take the supplement to try to help with constipation. But eating the herb can raise your blood pressure and cause a fast heartbeat and shortness of breath. It can even damage your liver, or bring on a coma or death.

Known in the Bible as one of the Three Kings gifts to baby Jesus, Myrrh remains popular today. This essential oil promotes relaxation through its amber aroma. Myrrh is a perfect addition for meditation to help relieve tension and create a calming environment. Diffusing Myrrh can help worries melt away while creating a sense of strength. Add Myrrh to a skin-care routine to help reduce the appearance of weathered skin such as redness and wrinkles. Additionally, rinse or gargle with Myrrh to back oral and gum health.
Young Living employs a Multi-level marketing model, recruiting "thousands of independent distributors who can sell directly to customers and earn commissions on sales to distributors recruited into a hierarchical network called 'downlines'."[2] Although distributors can potentially make a profit from direct sales, more money is made by commissions through sales made by people who the distributors recruit.[9] Distributors are categorized based on their sales: the lowest rank with the least sales are referred to as simply "Distributors", while at the top are the "Royal Crown Diamonds" who make up "less than one-tenth of one per cent" of the distributors.[9] Distributors are required by Young Living to make $100 of purchases per month, and according to a public income statement from 2016, approximately 94% of Young Living's active members made less than a dollar that year.[21][4] At the other end of the equation, the Royal Crown Diamonds made over a million dollars in the same period.[21]

Another sense of the term herb can refer to a much larger range of plants,[7] with culinary, therapeutic or other uses.[3] For example, some of the most commonly described herbs such as Sage, Rosemary and Lavender would be excluded from the botanical definition of a herb as they do not die down each year, and they possess woody stems.[5] In the wider sense, herbs may be herbaceous perennials but also trees,[7] subshrubs,[7] shrubs,[7] annuals,[7] lianas,[7] ferns,[7] mosses,[7] algae,[7] lichens,[5] and fungi.[5] Herbalism can utilize not just stems and leaves but also fruit, roots, bark and gums.[5] Therefore one suggested definition of a herb is a plant which is of use to humans,[5] although this definition is problematic since it could cover a great many plants that are not commonly described as herbs.
Another useful essential oil for digestion is peppermint. Research shows that peppermint oil works to provide rapid relief of IBS symptoms. In a 4-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, 72 patients with IBS received either peppermint oil or placebo. The peppermint group experienced a 40 percent reduction in total IBS symptoms after 4 weeks, which was superior to the 24 percent decrease of symptoms reported by the patients in the placebo group. After just 24 hours of using peppermint oil, the treatment group experienced a decrease in symptoms of 19.6 percent. (8)
According to a systemic review and meta-analysis published in Pain Research and Treatment, there is a significant positive effect of aromatherapy, compared to placebos or control treatments, in reducing pain. Researchers evaluated 12 studies on this topic and found that essential oils were especially helpful in treating postoperative pain, obstetrical pain and gynecological pain. (14)

Myrrh has been used in rituals, anointing blends and perfumery since ancient times, and was felt to enhance spirituality during sacred rites. The oil has a rich and warm, woody yet bittersweet scent which is pleasant to use during meditation. We offer a premium quality Myrrh, and a more cost-efficient selection from India that is softer and sweeter, to cover your product needs.

Carrot Seed, also known by its Latin name, Daucus carota, when distilled into essential oil, is known to be one of the most effective treatments for scars. Its healing properties are due to its highly antiseptic and antioxidant levels, as well as its high concentrations of Alpha and Beta-Pinene and Beta Carotene. In fact, it is the antioxidants which help fight those ever present and very damaging "free radicals" that threaten the body's immune system on a regular basis.
A pilot study published in Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice found that the use of aromatherapy as a complementary therapy helped to reduce anxiety and depression scales in postpartum women. Women between zero and 18 months postpartum were divided into either a treatment group that inhaled a blend of rose and lavender essential oils or a control group that didn’t receive any type of aromatherapy. After four weeks, the women using aromatherapy had significant improvements in anxiety and depression symptoms compared to those in the control group. (12)
We note that some of your Young Living Essential Oil products are marketed as dietary supplements, but are offered for topical use and/or intended for inhalation. Under section 201(ff)(2)(A)(i) of the Act [21 U.S.C. § 321(ff)](2)(A)(i)], a dietary supplement is defined, among other things, as a product intended for ingestion. Topical products and other products that are not intended for ingestion are not dietary supplements.  In any case, the claims referenced above in this letter are drug claims, which are not suitable claims for dietary supplements.  As such, whether or not they are intended for ingestion, the above-mentioned products are drugs under section 201(g)(1)(B) of the Act and not dietary supplements under section 201(ff) of the Act.
According to Avery, while specific dilutions can vary based on personal needs and individual essential oils, the general rule of thumb is to aim for a one to five percent dilution. "A one percent blend is six drops of essential oil per ounce of carrier, while a five percent blend would be 30 drops per ounce of carrier," she says. For specifics, check out Aura Cacia's handy dilution guide.

Vitamin E oil may prevent scarring by helping your skin to retain moisture while boosting collagen production. It also helps to protect your skin from damage caused by free radicals. Research demonstrating the effectiveness of vitamin E oil in treating scars has been mixed. A few studies have shown it to significantly improve the cosmetic appearance of scars. Additional research is needed.
More people seemed open to hearing about the medicinal applications of oils as well. “My parents were very much believers in the idea that the doctors were God and the government protects you,” Cohen said. Now, it seemed, people were realizing that typical sources of care weren’t infallible. “We have amazing answers here,” Cohen told me. “Why not try it? What do you have to lose?”
There are many popular, quality essential oils, including those that are Certified USDA Organic, therapeutic grade and 100% pure—with no fillers, bases or additives. For example, being Certified USDA Organic is important for some people because the organic certification can be traced back clear to the seed and plant. Every handler of the product must be certified as well. Additionally, no prohibited pesticides or other toxins are used for Certified USDA Organic products.
The world of essential oils is vast, intriguing, and honestly, a tad confusing. Are these plant extracts actually that powerful? (Yes.) Do I need to be the DIY-loving, crunchy type to use and enjoy them? (Not at all!) Can I just dab a few drops on my skin and call it a day? (Nope—please don't.) What the heck do I use all these different scents for? (We'll tell you!)
The particles in essential oils come from distilling or extracting the different parts of plants, including the flowers, leaves, bark, roots, resin and peels. In fact, just one drop of an essential oil can have powerful health benefits. Typically created through the process of distillation — which separates the oil and water-based compounds of a plant by steaming — essential oils are highly concentrated oils that have a strong aroma. In fact, sometimes they are called volatile aromatic oils because of their high concentration of the aromatic compounds. (1)
Disillusioned by Western medicine, Cohen began exploring other options. She studied with multiple healers and shamans; she read books with titles like “The Body Toxic” and pursued a massage-therapy license. As part of her training, she took a class on a massage technique called “raindrop therapy,” which incorporates essential oils—aromatic compounds made from plant material. At the time, essential oils were not well known, but Cohen was drawn to them right away. “From the very first moment with those oils, I noticed something was firing that hadn’t been firing,” she said. “I was deeply moved.”
The Food and Drug Administration is charged with preventing sellers of alternative-health products from making unfounded medical claims. Without ample independent testing, companies can’t assert that their products prevent, diagnose, treat, or cure disease. They get around this by relying on abstract words like “vitality” and “balance,” and by talking in vague terms about general body systems or mild issues that don’t rise to the level of disease. Young Living and doTerra have attorneys on staff to insure that product descriptions are within legal bounds.
In April, 2008, Stirling and several other former Young Living executives founded doTerra. Their goal was to make essential oils more appealing to a general audience. “At Young Living, we sold to a lot of Reiki masters,” Emily Wright, one of doTerra’s co-founders and Mary Young’s former personal assistant, said. “When we started doTerra, we really wanted to focus on mothers, to teach them to be empowered to take care of their families. We took essential oils out of this weird healers’ niche and into the mainstream.”

Aniba rosedora, or Brazilian rosewood, is a prized tropical hardwood used in fine furniture applications and in musical instruments, including guitar manufacture.  The essential oil of the species is an important fragrance ingredient and is said to have skin health properties and reportedly has been used by aromatherapists to treat depression. Spikenard oil is derived from a flowering plant of the valerian family and is used in some Ayurvedic preparations, where it goes by the name of Jatamansi.

Essential oils have also shown to improve learning, memory and ability to focus. Both stimulating and sedative essential oils can be useful, as oils like peppermint can improve sustained attention over a longer period of time, while oils like lavender can be useful for people going through tough exercises or situations. Furthermore, essential oils can be useful in relieving agitation in individuals with dementia. This is due to their calming and sedative effects. (10)
Some essential oils have sedative properties, which can be helpful for people who are having trouble falling asleep or sleeping through the night. Lavender oil, in particular, is known to be an effective sleep aid because of its ability to leave you feeling relaxed and calm. Some other oils that can be used to promote restful sleep include Roman chamomile, ylang ylang, bergamot and vetiver.

There’s no wonder why, considering the high cost of healthcare bills and the side effects of conventional medications, adding essential oils to your personal medicine cabinet can make a world of difference. This is especially true because essential oils benefits are vast and their uses range from aromatherapy, household cleaning products, personal beauty care and natural medicine treatments.

I've been buying essential oils more to enjoy the fragrance and and to help take mental journeys and dreams. I thought would be nice to have bring the smell of the woods into my home for a change from the the rose oil I had been using. This looked like a good jumping off point. The Fir Needle, Pine and Cypress oils make sense, but why include a meditation blend when there is a Wood and Earth blend that could have been included insteaded? I've purchased other oils to round out the Earth and Woodsy scents like Cederwood Oil and Spruce along with Spikenard Oils. I like this company and their prices are reasonable compared to the others that are more of a multi tier marketing scheme where you pay bonuses to all those middle sales people. As a bit of advice for those that like a woodsy scents, ... full review
Betty, You are correct about the difference between Pyramids and MLM’s. Do your homework Emma. Visit the farms. You will see that Young Living owns it’s own farms and doesn’t rely on a third party to supply their oils. There is a lot of time, money and research that goes into these oils. If nothing else, go to the Young Living website, scroll down and read D. Gary Young’s blog on how he got started. He didn’t copy other people’s hard work…he DID the hard work.
Hi Angela!! Just love all of your ideas and recipes. I am from Canada, and would like to ask you a quick question. Can we make our own essential oils? Would love to be able to make these also. Keep up the good work Angela!! I am also starting my own business. It’s all about helping seniors , and wondered if you would mind me giving my clients your web address, so they can get into all your goodies too. Thank you very much Angela. Marcy Boulter.
In September 2014, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned Young Living against marketing its products as treatments or cures for Ebola virus,[5][6] and other conditions, including "Parkinson’s disease, autism, diabetes, hypertension, cancer, insomnia, heart disease, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), dementia, and multiple sclerosis."[7][8]
Simple smells such as lavender, chamomile, and rosewater may help keep you calm. You can breathe in or rub diluted versions of these oils on your skin. Scientists think they work by sending chemical messages to parts of the brain that affect mood and emotion. Although these scents alone won’t take all your stress away, the aroma may help you relax.

Essential Rewards (ER) is an optional loyalty program. When you join, you’ll start accumulating rewards points (10-20% on your qualifying order) for everything you buy, which can be used to get free products on future orders. You can join the ER program later – but believe me, this is great to join from the get-go. Young Living has oils for hormone support like Progessence Plus for women and Shutran for men, supplements like NingXia Red and Master Formula (multivitamins), beauty products (I love the ART skin care line), and even toothpaste (trust me, Thieves toothpaste will change your life).
It might also: Prevent colon cancer and Alzheimer's disease. According to a small  clinical trial conducted by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, curcumin can help shrink precancerous lesions known as colon polyps, when taken with a small amount of quercetin, a powerful antioxidant found in onions, apples, and cabbage. The average number of polyps dropped more than 60% and those that remained shrank by more than 50%. In a 2006 study published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, researchers at UCLA also found that curcumin helps clear the brain of the plaques that are characteristic of the disease.
Please note:  Due to the rise in temperatures, the chances of oils/butters leaking increases. Africa Imports will do what it can to prevent your order from having any leaked out oils/butters without having to raise packaging/shipping prices.  However with boxes sitting in UPS/FedEx/US Mail trucks that can get up to 125° F, there is a chance of something busting/leaking due to the high temperatures these boxes are exposed to. We appreciate your patience during these warmer months.

Maximize the benefits: For both mood and sleep problems, author Duke recommends a supplement containing at least 0.3% hypericin (the active phytochemical) per capsule or 300 mg of the extract to be taken three times daily. Warning: St. John's wort has been shown to interact with several prescription medications, so be sure to check with your doctor before taking it.

#11. Essential Oil Bath –  Drip your chosen essential oils into a warm (not hot) bath. Use a few tablespoons of a dispersant like full cream milk or coconut oil which will assist in the absorption of the oils through your skin. Then just step into the bath and soak. Not only are you absorbing the oils, but also directly inhaling them at the same time. This is also a great way to finish off those bottles of essential oils that just have a drop or two left in them − just drop the entire bottle into your bath.
This is a good starter kit, especially if you don't want to spend a fortune on something that may not be your thing. We don't use all 6 of these, so I'm glad I didn't get suckered into buying a more pricey brand. I've purchased expensive essential oils and less expensive ones like these, and these are a good value. Don't get caught up buying multi-level marketing brands like **terra, just buy what works for you and your budget and enjoy!
Many A good number (updated 4/2015) of Young Living's farms are located in the U.S.  I think that's fine for a company being more “in control” of their product, but not great if you follow conventional wisdom that plants grow best (and have the best therapeutic qualities) when they are grown in their indigenous locations (where they are supposed to grow naturally).

Carrot Seed oil also has high levels on vitamin A, which is known to help produce collagen, a necessary component in the regeneration of skin cells and tissue that form in and on the body. The more collagen, the better the chance of your skin's revival, because it helps to smooth out uneven skin and scars on the body and layer in new and healthy cells.
When the 4 p.m. slump strikes, reboot by sniffing an invigorating scent blend—or better yet, spritzing yourself with an oil-infused face mist. Take your pick of scents that can help you double down on the rest of the workday: One study shows that sniffing rosemary can increase memory by 75% while peppermint has also been associated with recall as well as sustained focus. Other research has shown that peppermint, basil, and helichrysum help with burnout and mental fatigue.
Some essential oils qualify as GRAS flavoring agents for use in foods, beverages, and confectioneries according to strict Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and flavorist standards.[48] Pharmacopoeia standards for medicinal oils should be heeded. Some oils can be toxic to some domestic animals, cats in particular.[49] The internal use of essential oils can pose hazards to pregnant women, as some can be abortifacients in dose 0.5–10 mL, and thus should not be used during pregnancy.[citation needed]
To dry herb seeds, cut stems with seed heads just as the heads begin to turn brown.  Gather them into small bunches and hang the bunches upside down in paper bags that have ventilation holes punched in the sides of the bags.  Hang the bags in a warm, well-ventilated area out of the sun to dry. Once dry, the seeds can be shaken from the seed heads.  Carefully rub the seeds to separate seed from the capsules.  Laying the seeds on a clean flat surface and gently blowing across the seeds will help remove any debris and chaff.  Collect the seeds and store in sealed containers. Seeds may take longer to dry than leaves. Make sure the seeds are thoroughly dry before storing to avoid the possibility of the seeds becoming moldy.

Frances, many of the citrus oils and Rosemary 1,8 cineole can be used for focus. Rub a drop on your forehead and smell it. During the day you’ll be able to smell it sometimes too! For energy you can use Peppermint if you don’t have high blood pressure or babies at home. Rub a drop diluted with a drop of carrier oil (extra virgin olive oil, sesame oil or coconut oil) on your neck or forehead. Smell it also.
Herbs should be harvested when the oils responsible for their flavor and aroma are at their highest.  Proper timing depends on the plant part you are harvesting and how you plan to use it.  Herbs can be harvested when the plant has enough foliage to maintain growth.  With annual herbs, they can be cut back 50-75 percent and still recover. With perennial herbs, remove about one-third of the growth at any one time.  Use a sharp knife or pruners to make clean cuts.
Geranium oil is useful in treating scars by relieving inflammation, evening out skin tone, and encouraging new cell growth. Its antiseptic, antimicrobial, and antibacterial wound-healing properties may help scars to be less visible. Research from 2013 found that rose geranium oil is effective in preventing and treating inflammatory skin conditions.

Jamaican black caster oil might as well be magic, because this stuff works wonders. Why? Well, because its 100 percent pure blend uses traditional Jamaican methods to roast and boil organic castor beans. These beans are then blended to create a silky lather, which has been proven to promote length, luster, and strong hair follicles. Oh, and you can use it to make your nails and lashes grow, too.

We carry several varieties of Chamomile Essential Oil. The German variety is considered to be the most popular of all the Chamomiles and has an impeccable reputation among holistic practitioners. The German Chamomile is believed to be one of the most highly reputed oils for topical use. Chamomile Essential Oil contains azulene, which gives the oil a beautiful deep blue color. The scent of this oil is mild and sweet, similar to apples, and often has a medicinal aroma with very faint bittersweet notes.
Balsam of Peru, an essential oil derived from the Myroxylon, is used in food and drink for flavoring, in perfumes and toiletries for fragrance, and in medicine and pharmaceutical items for healing properties.[33][unreliable source?] However, a number of national and international surveys have identified Balsam of Peru as being in the "top five" allergens most commonly causing patch test allergic reactions in people referred to dermatology clinics.[34][35][36]

Milk thistle has been used for over a thousand years in traditional medicine. It supports kidney, gallbladder, and liver health. It also contains potential anti-cancer properties. Milk thistle also promotes heart health, regulates blood sugar levels, and boosts brain health. In addition, it improves skin conditions, reduces skin damage caused by radiation treatment, prevents free radical damage, reduces visible signs of aging, and maintains healthy eyes.

An essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid containing volatile (easily evaporated at normal temperatures) aroma compounds from plants. Essential oils are also known as volatile oils, ethereal oils, aetherolea, or simply as the oil of the plant from which they were extracted, such as oil of clove. An essential oil is "essential" in the sense that it contains the "essence of" the plant's fragrance—the characteristic fragrance of the plant from which it is derived.[1] The term essential used here does not mean indispensable as with the terms essential amino acid or essential fatty acid which are so called since they are nutritionally required by a given living organism.[2] In contrast to fatty oils, essential oils typically evaporate completely without leaving a stain or residue.
During the final week of the trial, I toured doTerra’s headquarters, in Pleasant Grove, Utah. An employee led me through an air-conditioned warehouse full of fifty-gallon barrels of oils with labels identifying their origins: frankincense from Oman; lavender from Bulgaria. Essential oils, which are made by steam-distilling or cold-pressing plant material, are incredibly resource-intensive to produce. It takes more than a million rose petals to make an ounce of rose oil, which doTerra says is good for the complexion. A single barrel of frankincense oil is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. The rose oil is so valuable that it was locked in a separate area. As oils have become more popular, sourcing has become contentious. Frankincense, coveted both for its alleged ability to regenerate cells and for its Biblical prominence, is derived from the resin of trees that grow only in the Horn of Africa and the Middle East. Anjanette DeCarlo, an environmental scientist who specializes in frankincense, told me, “If the demand keeps up without proper controls, we risk causing an ecological crash of a rare and endangered ecosystem.” Young Living recently pleaded guilty to illegally trafficking in rosewood oil from Peru, which considers rosewood trees a threatened species.

Bergamot Organic Essential Oil is popular for its fruity and floral fragrance. This oil has versatile benefits, from easing stress to promoting a healthy mental state during times of grief and sadness. Bergamot can also help clear skin problems and tackle oily skin through gentle cleansing. Finally, add this oil to a muscle massage to help relieve aches or muscle tension caused from fatigue and exercise. The Plant Therapy Bergamot Organic Essential Oil does not contain bergaptine and is safe to use in the sun.
